Steven J. Kung

ARCADIA

A Chinese-American violinist living in Los Angeles grapples with her career trajectory, her friendships, and her romantic future.

Steven J. Kung (he/him) uses humor to illuminate things oft unseen which include POC and LGBTQ+ folx. While at first glance he reminds you of that over-achieving Asian classmate (which he was), he’s also a salsa merengue instructor and very queer. In fact, as a staff writer on DEAR WHITE PEOPLE, Steven was credited by EP/creator Justin Simien as writing the “gayest episodes.” Steven also wrote the acclaimed Koreatown episode of Here’s TV’s Falling For Angels and is currently writing two unannounced television projects. As a director, his feature about anti-Asian racism in the entertainment industry, A LEADING MAN, won multiple awards on the festival circuit and is now streaming on joysauce.com. Steven also directed on the sixth season of FRESH OFF THE BOAT after graduating from the Disney ABC Directing Program and is currently a director in the Paramount Directing Initiative. In another life, Steven worked at the Department of Justice and the Kennedy Center. He is a proud co-founder of the DGA LGBTQ+ Committee and co-chair emeritus of the DGA Asian American Committee. His patronus is a soup dumpling.
